Requirements for text messaging

Generally, to send and receive text messages a user must be assigned to a phone number that supports SMS. Requirements for text messaging vary by country. 

United States

Sending and receiving text messages is supported.

A local number is required.

A2P 10DLC regulations require registration with The Campaign Registry before you are able to send text messages from applications like VXT. So, if you're not registered carriers like AT&T will block your texts. The registration process takes up to two weeks. Until your registration is completed you will not be able to send text messages, even if your phone numbers are available in your account. While you wait for registration to be completed, you can still receive texts and contact the senders via a phone call. To start the registration process, complete the form at this link

Registration for A2P 10DLC is only required for sending text messages to recipients in the United States. 

Australia

Sending and receiving text messages is supported.

A mobile number is required

New Zealand

Sending text messages is supported. Receiving text messages is not supported. 

All New Zealand customers can send text messages via short code. 

United Kingdom

Sending and receiving text messages is supported.

A mobile number is required.

Canada

Sending and receiving text messages is supported.

A local number is required.

Purchasing a phone number for SMS

Purchasing a phone number that supports SMS requires the Manage phone numbers permission. 

If supported in your country, you can purchase an SMS enabled number by following these instructions:

  1. Open the VXT app on your computer
  2. Select Admin, in the bottom-left
  3. Select Phone numbers, in the admin menu
  4. Select + ADD PHONE, in the top-right
  5. Select New phone number
  6. Select your Country and Number type
    1. Select a Number type that supports SMS. Support for SMS is indicated on the number type with a chip including an SMS icon and the text "SMS".
  7. Click Continue
  8. Assign the users who you want to send and receive messages with this number
    1. We recommend adding one SMS enabled number per user
  9. Click Continue
  10. Name your phone number

VXT charges a small fee for each text message you send. VXT does not charge for receiving messages.  You can subscribe to pre-paid bundles in the app via Admin -> Billing -> Usage add-ons. Pricing is available in the app and on our website via this link

How to send a text message in VXT

Follow these steps to send an SMS message through:

  1. Open VXT and navigate to the Phone page.

  2. Click on the new message icon at the top of the page.

  3. If you have multiple phone numbers assigned to you, ensure that the correct phone number is selected in the From field.

  4. Search for a contact by name or enter the number of the recipient you want to message.

  5. Type your message into the text field in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

    1. VXT supports sending and receiving files via Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). To send a file in your message drag and drop, or click on the attachments item and select the file you want to send. 
  6. Once your message is ready, click the send icon or press Enter on your keyboard. 

Sending messages to multiple recipients at once aka 'bulk texting'

VXT supports sending text messages to up to 60 recipients at once. When you send a text message to more than one recipient, each recipient will see the text message from you without any of the other recipients' details. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Phone page
    • Open VXT and navigate to the Phone page.

  2. Click on the message symbol
    • Locate the message symbol at the top right corner of the Phone page and click on it.

  3. Check your phone number
    • If you have multiple phone numbers assigned to you, ensure that the correct phone number is selected.

  4. Input recipient details
    • Add multiple phone numbers in the recipient field to send a bulk message to a group of people. You can also select multiple contacts from your saved list.

  5. Compose your message
    • Type your message into the text field.

  6. Send the message
    • Once your message is ready, click the send button, and your bulk message will be sent to all the recipients.
