Jabra won't stop ringing

This article will help you understand why your Jabra headset wont stop ringing, after you have answered or declined an incoming call in VXT and how to solve this problem.

 

What’s happening?

Some wireless models of Jabra headsets play their own ringing sound through a base station when a user receives a call in VXT (or any other calling app that integrates with Jabra). There is a bug with Jabra whereby when the call is answered or declined, the Jabra base station does not realize and continues playing the ringing noise indefinitely. For clarity, this is not an issue specific to VXT, it also occurs when other calling apps integrate with Jabra i.e. Jabra is the culprit.

"Several weeks ago, I noticed that the headset started to play a ringing tone when somebody is calling me in VXT... The ringtone is different from the one used by VXT."

Troubleshooting steps

The best way to solve this problem would be to stop the Jabra base from ringing. The specific method for solving your issue depends on the computer and Jabra model you are using:

  • Jabra software:
    • Jabra provide two applications that you can use to manage your headset, Jabra Direct and Jabra Sound+. The apps are easy to use but might take you a minute to download, and play around if you have not used them before. Your model headset may or may not allow you to manage whether the base rings, regardless getting familiar with Jabra software is a great way to improve the way your wireless headset works and prevent other issues.
    • You can use the Jabra apps to ensure your Jabra headset firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updates can address bugs like this one.
    • The Jabra Elite series uses Jabra Sound+, not Jabra Direct. Jabra Direct is used for most Jabra business devices. You may have to try both applications before you find the one that works with your model.
  • Bluetooth settings on your computer (Windows)
    • One user reported a successful fix by navigating to Control Panel > [select your Bluetooth device] > Services tab and unchecking "Handsfree Telephony." This change allowed their speaker to function properly, behaving more like a standard speaker instead of a headset.
  • Turn off your headset integration
    • You can disable the VXT integration with your Jabra headset in our app. This means the buttons on your headset will no longer work with VXT like answer and decline. Your will still be able to use your headset to speak to callers through VXT without the integration.
    • To turn off the integration open VXT, then go to Settings -> Calling -> Headsets -> Disconnect your Jabra headset 
  • Contact Jabra support
    • If problems persist, reach out to Jabra support and share this article with them. After all it's their bug, and hopefully they'll solve it permanently.
