Headsets

Everything you need to know about using headsets with VXT (and what to avoid).

Not sure which headset to use with VXT? You’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll cover the following:

Headsets & VXT: What to Know

What doesn’t work well?

  • VXT does not support handsets/deskphones in the same way it supports softphone/headset‑based calling. If you’re relying on a traditional desk phone or handset, you may not get full functionality.

  • Wireless (Bluetooth) headsets often cause more problems (latency, pairing issues, “sleep mode” delays) compared to wired ones. VXT strongly recommends wired headsets for the best reliability.

What Makes a Good Headset?

When choosing a headset for VXT, here are the features that tend to work best:

  • Wired connection (USB or audio jack) → more stable audio, lower latency.

  • Directed microphone (so the mic picks up your voice well, not a lot of background noise).

  • Noise cancellation (active or passive) to reduce office / ambient noise.

  • Stereo vs mono: Stereo helps you hear better, especially in noisy places. Mono is okay if you want to stay aware of your surroundings or are only doing lighter call work.

Headset Recommendations

Here are some headset recommendations—note that wired Jabra models are especially trusted. You can also learn more through our site -> VXT headset recommendations.

Model Price tier What’s good about it
Jabra Evolve 20 $ (lower cost) Solid, reliable; good for quieter environments or when you need something simple but decent.
Jabra Evolve2 40 $$ (mid‑range) Better passive noise cancellation, more comfortable; USB‑A or USB‑C options.
Jabra Evolve2 50 $$$ (premium) Active noise cancellation, great for louder / busier workspaces, high call volume.

Also: most wired headsets from good brands will work, but these Jabra ones are recommended as being reliable and offering good performance.

Common Headset Issues & Fixes

Sometimes headsets act up. Here are common problems + where to look for help:

Issue Cause Where to find help / What to try
No sound or mic not working Wrong device selected, muted mic, headset unplugged Check the “Headset sound or mic not working” article.
At the start of a call I can’t hear anything Wireless headset “sleep mode”, sound settings not switched Look at “Can’t hear anything at the start of a call” article.
Calls not notifying / VXT is not ringing Notification or volume settings, headset not default device See “VXT is not ringing” article.
Poor call quality (static, delays, echo, etc.) Low bandwidth; wireless interference; device issues; too far from Bluetooth/dongle for wireless. Read “How to improve your call quality”.
Jabra headset won’t stop ringing Software or connection glitches See Jabra won’t stop ringing for step-by-step fixes

Quick tips for better headset performance:

  • Use a wired headset whenever you can — it’s more reliable and gives better sound.
  • Double-check your audio settings before a call to make sure the right device is selected.
  • Unplug and replug your headset or restart it if something’s not working right.
  • Keep your headset and VXT app up to date to avoid bugs and glitches.
