Channels

Channels are a way to organise conversations with your team.

Channels appear on the left of the Team page, above direct messages. Channels can be public or private.

Public vs. private channels

Every channel has a visibility, public or private

Users can find, view, join and leave public channels, by selecting the browse channels button in the top right corner of the channels menu, as shown in the screenshot below.

Private channels are for conversations that should not be open to all users. To join a private channel a user must be invited, or have the Manage channels permission.

🔒 Messages in private channels are only visible to the users in that channel.

Channel management

Users with the Manage channels permission, including admins, can create, and archive channels; or add and remove users from a channel.
